Sunday Night Song Stage Re-launches!

For over 10 years, I’ve hosted the “Sunday Night Song Stage” in Edmonton. We began in a little coffee shop on Whyte Ave and then landed at Hulberts for an amazing run. When Hulberts closed it’s doors (sniff-sniff) we moved to Jeckyl & Hyde, Expressionz Cafe and have finally landed at our new permanent home at Cha Island Tea Co.

Cha Island is an all ages, licensed venue in Old Strathcona independently owned and operated by Jake Raynard. He’s an avid supporter of live music and the arts and he’s created an amazing atmosphere in his cozy 2 level establishment. He also creates the best panini’s, waffles, salads & ice tea’s in Edmonton at the best prices bar none.

After a summer long hiatis, we relaunched our Sunday Night Song Stage last night (September 9th) and we had a fantastic night filled with great music and warm, supportive community atmosphere.

We’re also proud to host a monthly concert event at Cha Island starting September 15th with Braden Gates & Friends. Cha also hosts special events most every night (games night; live music; arts events; poetry readings; etc)

We hope to see you soon at Cha Island Tea Co! (10332-81 Ave)

The Blogging Begins…

It’s been my intention to begin blogging for a while but I wanted to wait until the festival dust settled and our vision, plans and processes were in place.

Our little business is growing and in the process, we have assembled an incredible team of professional arts women – each with her own unique contributions and expertise. March Music & The School of Song exists because of the vision, direction and talents of the following amazing people:

Lynn Turnbull: (google docs, admin, newsletter, MMI website, chief geek; Rhea’s right arm and master of all things needed yesterday)

Ellie May: (bookings; admin; event coordination; community & artist liason)

Alana Levandoski: (senior mentor & outreach program developer; recording consultant; producer; touring artist)

Daneel Irons: (March Music bookings; contracts; community outreach; public relations; account manager)

Kaley Bird: (School of Song special projects & outreach coordination; event managment; contracts; bookings; account manager)

Rhea March: (Founder of March Music & The School of Song; live performance & artist development specialist; Programmer of the School of Song stages at the Edmonton & Canmore Folk Music Festivals)

Each of us brings something special to the table and together we are united in our commitment to provide inspiring programs and artist development opportunities for Alberta’s emerging songwriters.

Art Walk and Day Camp were Great!

Art Walk

We had a beautiful Saturday at Whyte Avenue Art Walk!

On Sunday, the School of Song performers had their audience dancing in the rain!

So many School of Song artists performed in the Gazebo, filling McIntyre Park with music.

Thanks to Kim Fjordbotten and the Whyte Avenue Art Walk!

Day Camp

Rhea March and Alana Levandoski showed their passion for music mentorship at the School of Song Day Camp held at Expressionz Cafe in Edmonton.

“We couldn’t be happier or prouder with the success of the students at our School of Song Day Camp!  It was a transformative experience for everyone involved including us!” says Rhea.

The students performed a concert for friends and family on the last evening, playing songs they had written and co-written during the camp.

Thanks to Expressionz Cafe for the wonderful location and for the delicious food during the dinner concert!
